About Susan's Market:
- Susan’s Market is a program of Mainland Children’s Partnership. Its purpose is to provide “more than food” to those in our community that need help in becoming financially self-supporting.
- The need for food is often a symptom of a larger problem. At Susan’s Market we use food as a gateway to assess and determine the bigger needs of our clients. These needs often include financial counseling, access to medical care and other services to help our clients become more self-supporting.
- To be Eligible for Susan's Market:
- All participants must reside in Texas City, La Marque, Santa Fe or Hitchcock.
- All participants must be low income and complete financial eligibility screening.
- All participants must be elderly, have a disability, or be enrolled in self-sufficiency activities such as school or job training.
- MCP does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.
- Clients wishing to access the services of Susan’s Market receive an assessment by trained MCP staff. This assessment evaluates the financial, social, health and other functions of the family and determines their capacity for self-sufficiency. After the assessment, the MCP staff works with the family to develop an individualized plan which includes the services needed and – importantly – the commitments and actions needed to be taken by the client family. Continued access to the market and to the services provided is contingent on the family meeting their commitments.
- The food and other items distributed at Susan’s Market are donated by the local community or purchased through the Galveston County Food Bank. Through a partnership with United Faith Alliance, local churches are given the opportunity to help supply the market through food drives and other donation programs. UFA also provides volunteers for the market.
- MCP uses the United Way’s Charity Tracker database to ensure that there is no duplication of services to clients from other community providers.
Special thanks to St. John UMC Texas City Community Garden and United Way Galveston County Mainland for supporting Susan's Market!
